BIO

My name is Kristin and I am currently attending Suny Collage at Old Westbury with the hopes of achieving my Bachelors degree in Visual Arts. I took art classes my junior and senior year of high school but my inspiration in art came from sitting and drawing with my grandpa who was an amazing artists. After graduation I hope to obtain a job as a graphic designer and would also love to design tattoos.

Artist Statement

For midterms I created paintings based off of cancers that have affected the people in my life. For finals I expanded my idea. Instead of painting just the cancer I decided to place the cancer on an animal. The animal I picked to paint the cancer on are multiple dogs. The reason I picked dogs is because the past two dogs that I had passed away from cancer. So this makes the paintings personal. Instead of using the painting technique I originally used, my professor and I decided that it would be more interesting if I distorted the images. This influence came from Francis Bacon and the way he paints portraits. I think this technique ties in to my concept better since, in a way, cancer distorts and deforms the body and its parts.

Tutorials 3

I am portraying the idea of separation. The sculpted figures are trapped inside the mason jars and cannot escape because the lid is closed; and mason jars can only be opened from the outside. All of these figures are now forced to survive in these conditions. Even though these figures are separated, they are still connected by all of the memories they keep inside the jar with them.
